The new CD by singer/songwriter George Earl Parker features the song, “I Wanna Be A Superhero,” an urgent plea to do anything rather than live a monotonous life. Earl Parker’s desire is to write songs that connect on a human level and he’s definitely done that on this album.
“SHOW ME THE MONEY” by Earl Parker and the Ravens, produced and arranged by David Day is the amazing result of two highly creative artists. An album that combines rock, pop and country seamlessly, it touches frankly on a variety of subjects from romance, sex, heartbreak, dance, and friendship to the human desire to take chances.
Parker is used to taking chances, he’s already written two novels, The Atomic Kid-Adventures in the Antiworld and Vampyre Blood-Eight Pints of Trouble. And he’s in the midst of recording the unique songs for The Atomic Kid, a coming-of-age adventure with a science fiction twist.
Early rock fans may remember the Frantics, (they toured with The Who and The Yardbirds) or Whitehorse-who played with Van Halen on the Sunset Strip. Those bands exemplify just some of David Day’s wide variety of musical experience: A guitarist, at home with all instruments, his producing and arranging talents helped Monique Wells have three songs hit and move up the Country Music charts last year.
Day praises Parker’s “phenomenal writing talents” which he says are reminiscent of Bob Dylan, John Lennon and Johnny Cash. “Every song is emotional and tells a story we can all relate to.”
“Anywhere You Touch Me” is a sensual evocative song, while “Pieces of You” is a painful anthem of lost love. “Crazy Enough to Do It” encourages us to dream: “Half the job is knowing what you want and getting to it, and the other half is just being crazy enough to do it.” And Parker humorously cheers the listener on when life doesn’t quite work the way you want in “Try a Change.
